What is a creole?
When speakers learn a pidgin language as their native language- usually by a second generation
What is a pidgin?
Simplified language that is formed due to language contact between speakers who don’t share a language

What is Schneider’s Dynamic Model?
There are five phases:
- Foundation- English brought into the new territory
- Exonormative stabilisation- colonising power looked to for model of use. They determine the language behaviour
- Nativisation- new varieties of the language emerge
- Endonormative stabilisation- new variety develops, users no longer look to original language
- Differentiation- internal diversity emerges, regional dialect/social class influences
What is the substantial theory?
When speakers learn a new language they will learn it imperfectly and will pass on these imperfections
What does prepone and depone mean?
Prepone- bring something forward in time or date
Depone- state or declare upon oath
