What are social styles?
Established patterns of social behaviours
What does the ‘driver’ social style involve?
Telling + controlled = DRIVER
- objective, decisive, determined and display a strong need for results
What does the ‘expressive’ social style involve?
Telling + emotive = EXPRESSIVE
- Spontaneous, stimulating and display a strong need for social recognition
What does the ‘amiable’ social style involve?
Asking + emotive = AMIABLE
- easy going, cooperative and display a strong need to maintain relationships
What does the ‘analytic’ social style involve?
Asking + controlled = ANALYTIC
- Detail-oriented, persistent and display a strong need to be right
What does the interpersonal circumplex model do?
Identifies how individuals relate to one another on 2 important dimensions: dominant vs submissive and distant vs close
What is an emotion?
Intense, relatively short-term affective reactions to a specific situation e.g. I am happy because I got a job offer
What is a mood?
Weaker, longer term reactions that can develop for no specific cause e.g. I am feeling good today for no reason
What are the stages of the mood contagion?
1) an individual is exposed to the moods of another person
2) the expression of emotions is perceived by an individual through both verbal and non verbal communication
3) emotions are transferred to the other person, may mimic facial expressions, body language etc
What are team norms?
Interpersonal rules that members are expected to follow
