What is the two parts of legislations?
With the two tiers of legislation being Occupational Health and Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity.
What is the OH-and-S legislation for?
- A work environment without risks to health and safety.
- A safe systems of work
What does PCBU stand for?
Person Undertaking a Business or Undertaking.
How is OH-and-S legislations achieved?
- Anyone at risk must receive any information, training or supervision that is necessary for their protection.
- There must be adequate access to facilities/equipment to reduce risk.
- Health and conditions must be monitored for the purpose of preventing illness or injury.
- The PCBU must modify the environment and remove all hazards at their source rather than relying on employees to modify their behaviour.
Is it the duty of the PCBU or the employee to take care of the OH-and-S rules and regulations?
It is always the PCBU’s job to maintain an environment that meets OH-and-S regulations for all types of employee’s.
Do the employees hold any responsibility in maintaining their safety in the work place?
Yes, they must also take responsibility for their own health and safety and ensure they do not impact the health and safety of others. They must also conform to any reasonable instructions set out by the WHS (Work Health and Safety) policies and procedures.
What does EEO stand for?
Equal Employment Opportunity.
What is EEO?
Equal Employment Opportunity is the establishment of conditions that allow all workers - regardless of their age, gender, disability, ethnicity and sexuality - the opportunity to find, gain and advance (through promotion) in employment.
Employers are still allowed to turn away people in terms of skills, talents or abilities.
It works to eliminate the possibility of discrimination.
