What are the antecedents of Work-Family-Conflict and how does the Conservation of Resources Theory explained the effects?
When pressure from work is not compatible with family. Wither time, strain or behaviour based).
Antecedents of WFC are work-related (job, demands, long hours, ambiguity), family (parenting stress), individual diff (negative affect)
Conservation of Resources Theory (Hobfoll)
Assumption that people work to conserve and protect resources that are valued. Loss or threatened loss of resources causes stress.
In WFC limited resources are spread across domains and when areas compete for demands it can generate role strain.
What are antecedents of Work-Family-Enrichment and how does the COR theory explain the process?
Multiple roles can generate positive resources. Antecedents include work (control/autonomy, support, demand), family (spousal support), individ diff (under, positive affect)
The three dimensions of WFE are development (skills), Affect and Capital (fulfilment in work-> fills need)
COR: have natural tendency to develop, achieve, grow-> acquire resources
- Resources gained at work applied at home lead to WFE (not competing for demands but integrating them)
