What is Work Engagement?
A
A state of optimal functioning at work. Three aspects:
- Vigor: high level of energy/resilience
- Dedication: strongly identifies with work
- Absorption: time flies/ intensely engrossed
Stretch Work engagement scales uses these o assess work engagement

What are antecedents of work engagement?
A
COR Theory: gains in resources leads to positive outcomes
- Job resources: resource gains increases willingness to dedicate effort and ability- growth (intrinsic motivation)
- Personal: Individual better able to use resources and generate more that are beneficial
- Leadership: inspiration, comm
- Job Demands: Yerkes-Dobson inverted U

What is Burnout and what are it’s antecedents?
A
emotional/physical exhaustion from excessive stress. Three components: overwhelming exhaustion, cynicism and detachment, ineffectiveness
Antecedents: individual trait, high WFC/WFE, job characteristics, low engagement
