What are the 2 different types of paper prescriptions?
FP10
- Repeatable: RA, 1 per batch
- Batch: RD, >1, dispensing prescription
Can repeat prescriptions be amended by hand by a prescriber?
No
Which patients are suitable for repeat dispensing?
- 1 regular pharmacy
- LT conditions
Which medications can’t be included in repeat prescriptions?
Sched 2 + 3
Can prn + non-oral meds be on repeat prescriptions?
Yes but issued on seperate RD
How do repeat prescriptions work at GPs?
- RA signed by GP
- Batch don’t have to be signed
How many months worth of supply of medicines can be issued?
12 months
When is the first repeatable prescription dispensed?
W/in 6 months of date on form
When do CD 4 repeatable prescriptions dispensed?
W/in 28 days
How long until all the Rx are all dispensed?
W/in 12 months of date on RA
Can a batch be dispensed in another pharmacy?
No - only if pharmacy holds RD
What do you ask a patient before each batch is dispensed?
- Are they taking/using the medicines appropriately?
- Side effects?
- Changes in condition?
- New meds?
- Anything you don’t need?
- Inform date they collect next supply
What do you do when the last batch is dispensed?
- Inform it is last issue
- Good practice: written reminder of last batch
When would you contact a prescriber as a pharmacist?
- Starts/stops med
- Strength change
- Not collecting med regularly
- Consistently refusing item
Legally, what needs to be recorded?
- Date + quantity of each item dispensed
- Interventions made by pharmacist
