Psychology
the scientific investigation of mental processes {Thinking, feeling, remembering and behaviour}
Biopsychology
examines the physical basis of psychological processes such as motivation, emotion and stress
Cross-cultural psychology
tries to distinguish universal psychological processes from those that are specific to a particular culture
Psychodynamic perspective
peoples actions are determined by the way thoughts, feelings and wishes are connected in their minds
Humanistic perspective
focuses on the uniqueness of an individual, it assumes people are motivated to reach their full potential.
Behaviourist perspective
the way objects/events in environment can control behaviour through learning
Cognitive perspective
The way people process, perceive and retrieve information
Evolutionary perspective
argues that behavioural tendencies such as eating and caring stem from our ancestors abilities to adapt and survive.
Brocas Apahsia
Damage to the left frontal cortex- causing limited language. e.g short sentences or single words
Wenickes Aphasia
Damage to the temporal lobe- unable to recognise words and produce incoherent speech
Functionalism
Exploring the evolutionary function of mind and thought in humans and non humans
Cognition
The mental processes of perceiving, remembering, thinking, talking about and understanding and the act of using those processes.
Schema Theory
Mental frameworks for organising and representing knowledge e.g objects, events and relationships.
