Stereotyped polysynaptic reflex in response to painful stimulus to skin / subcutaneous tissue / muscle.

Outline the sequence of events in a withdrawal reflex.
A
- Nociceptive stimulus
- Flexor muscles contract, Extensor muscles relax
- Crossed extensor response (contralateral limb)

Describe how some of the characteristics are altered by a more intense nociceptive stimulus.
A
- Reduced time to response
- Increased force of flexor contraction
- More prolonged contraction time / response time
