Why teaching? Flashcards

1
Q

How do you know teaching is the profession for you?

A

I have been working in a school for the past year and I know for sure that is it the profession for me.

I find it so rewarding, making a difference to children’s lives and inspiring them to go on and achieve their full potential is something which I love. I can’t see myself doing anything different now

Everyday is different - sense of achievement, go home and feel positive about what you have done

Talk about how I love learning and how I always appreciated having good enthusiastic teachers who inspired me to carry on studying

Q

What are you looking forward to about teaching as a profession?

A

As I have been a TA for the past year, I’m excited about being the class teacher because I’m very excited to have my own class and being their teacher. I’m looking forward to bringing my own ideas into the classroom, my own lessons and my own styles of teaching. The main thing I’m looking forward to is making a positive difference in the children’s lives and being their positive role model

Q

Do you have any special skills that would contribute to your role as a teacher?

A

I have a lot of experience of what it is like to work in a school

I am caring and kind - I feel as though I create a welcoming environment for the children. For example, there is one child who won’t come in unless I am at the door because she feels safe around me and wants me to look after her

Good organisational skills - learnt from university

Q

Why are you interested in this age group?

A

Primary over secondary because:

I like having one year group and being their main role model - you can really get to know the children and make sure that they can trust you and rely on you to keep them safe

I find this age group more enjoyable and exciting - can be creative, outdoor learning

Teach them core life skills from the very start of their life - like reading

Teach all of the curriculum rather than just one subject

Q

Why do you want to do your teaching training with us?

A

I attended your zoom meeting and I liked that you were flexible - having to study and train at the same time is very difficult, but one of your current students stated how you were flexible teaching and if you are struggling they will support you

I also like how the work is online - so that you can complete the sessions in your own time, flexibility is important, especially when you are working full time

Group sessions - these are good as it gives you a chance to talk to other students doing the same thing, sharing ideas and seeing what is working for them

Q

Why do you want to be a teacher?

A

I have always wanted a job working with children and a job that made a difference. I love going home and feeling like I achieved something at the end of the working day. I have worked in a pub for the past 8 years, whilst it has given me great communication skills, i knew it wasn’t the job for me, i don’t come away from it feeling satisfied.

However, being a TA for the past year has made me realise teaching is the career for me. It leads me to feeling a sense of achievement at the end of the day. I know I have impacted and made a difference to someone’s life. The reason I have picked teaching is because of the rewards it brings.

One thing which is particularly rewarding about teaching is the moment something clicks with a child who is struggling with a concept. The moment they get it is so rewarding (talk about AB, finally spelling the, was a breakthrough after weeks)

As well as this, I love working with children. I always have - I find them fun and find the job very rewarding which is the main reason I want to be a teacher - everyday is different

Love for learning - always loved learning, enjoy it, if the teacher is enthusiastic the kids will be too
