What are gangs?
Gangs are groups of people who associate together to cause deviance to others and society. Some gangs are criminal or deviant.
There’s focus on the gang name, territory, leader, hierarchy and rules to follow within the gang.
What are criminal subcultures?
They are actively involved in criminality which can be organised crimes to others in society.
What are delinquent subcultures?
They are actively involved in deviant behaviour to the society around them.
What are anti-school subcultures?
Pupils reject norms and values of the school and reverse them.
They value trouble-making, truanting and academic failure.
They reject values of the school and later reject education values more widely.
What are spectacular youth subcultures?
They were visible in the 1950’s-1970’s and wore highly recognizable and flamboyant styles.
Included punks, mods, rockers, teddy boys, skinheads.
What are the newer emerging subcultres?
The internet influences the development of subcultures and deviant subcultures.
Subcultures come and go and are continually emerging.
