Anestrus, pro estrus, estrus, diestrus
Signs of anestrus.
No vaginal discharge or vulva swelling, low progesterone
Signs of pro estrus.
Blood discharge, male attraction, rising progesterone
Signs of estrus.
Discharge, vulvular swelling, increase of progesterone
When does conception occur?
First 4 days of estrus
Signs of diestrus.
Refusal of breeding, some discharge
How log is gestation?
63-65 days
Signs of a pseudo pregnancy?
Nesting, enlarged mammary glands, mothering objects
When does puberty occur?
5-9 months but later in large breeds
What should we consider before breeding?
Genetically makeup, vaccinations, temperament, brucellosis test,
Disease causing abortion and fetal loss.

When can we ultrasound to confirm pregnancy?
18 days before whelp
What are no nos of breeding?
Don’t breed after four years old, breed once yearly or every other heat cycle, ont breed first heat
What are the stages of parturition?
Nesting, delivery/expel placenta, whelming
What happens during the nesting stage?
Temperature drop, restlessness, milky vaginal discharge
What happens during delivery stage?
Whelping, pushing, contractions, water breaks

What does the mother do after whelping?
Nurse pups, chew off umbilical cord, lick surrounding fluids and mucous
What do we need to prepare for our whelping?
Nesting box, whelp box, puppy pads, bulb syringes, dopram, suture material, iodine, nail polish, towels, scale
