What do we view in physical examination?
Hydration, body hair, skin, body symmetry, body formation
What are common landmarks of first week of life?
Sleep 80% of the time, nursing 2-4hrs, motor skills, sex determination, response to stimuli
Second week of life landmarks?
Begin to crawl, double birth weight, eyes and ear canals open
Where do we draw blood on neonates?
Jugular
How do we get urine samples on neonates?
Manual expression, not cysto
When taking radiographs, what do we change?
Reduce kvp of half adult
At what age are neonates temperature that of an adults?
6 weeks
What are signs of hypothermia?
Restless,lethargic, cool to touch, decreased vitals
What causes fading neonate syndrome?
Poor management, poor nutrition, infections, environmental conditions, defects
What are symptoms of fading neonate syndrome?
Emaciation, anorexia, lethargy, defects, death
What is important for orphan care?
Clean, dry housing, warmth, good nutrition, eight daily and track, track temperature
What equipment is needed for exam of young?
Stethoscope, thermometer, warm, clean surface
