Whats Beyond The 4 Chamber View? Flashcards
What are the most common congenital anomaly?
Congenital heart defects
Prenatal diagnosis of CHD rely on US for what?
Detection of cardiac anomaly during 2nd trimester scan
A cardiac screening exam is performed at how many weeks?
Between 18 and 22 weeks
What should you do to optimize a cardiac exam?
Choose a higher frequency transducer, use tissue harmonics, magnify to see the heart, focus on heart level, high frame rate and high resolution
What are the 5 axial views for optimal fetal screening?
SITUS, 4-chamber, RVOT, LVOT, and 3VV/3VT
What are important things to notice when looking at the 4 chamber view?
Ensure ventricles are the same size, ensure atriums are the same size, ensure aorta is located behind the LA and there are 2 pulmonary veins entering the LA, ensure moderator band is in RV, and ensure LV makes up majority of apex
Where should the foramen ovale open up to?
Left atrium
When trying to get LVOT view how should you angle the transducer?
Aim transducer to the right fetal shoulder
The 3 vessel tracheal view is helpful to evaluate what structure in the heart?
Aortic arch
The bicaval view helps look at what?
Helps confirm IVC and SVC are on the same side and intact
What does TGA mean?
Transposition of the Greater Arteries
What is the transposition of the greater arteries?
Aorta atieses from the RV and Pulmonary artery arises from the LV
What are the best views to rule out TGA?
RVOT and LVOT
What defects are seen in the 4 chamber view?
Septal defects, arterioventricular defects, ebsteins anomaly, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, anomalous pulmonary venous connection
