Q

What is the “Spirit of Glory?

Someone who is a follower of Christ is called what?

1 Peter 4:14-16
[14]If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
[15]But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
[16]Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

A

The Spirit of Glory is a spirit from God that seals and guarantees someone’s glorification in and from Christ when they ascend up into heaven.

Someone who follows Christ is called a Christian.

Q

According to Jesus, what does it mean to be a child of Abraham?

What is implied by, “ye seek to kill me….this did not Abraham”?

John 8:39-40
[39]They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
[40]But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

John 8:56-59
[56]Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
[57]Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
[58]Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
[59]Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

A

To be a child of Abraham according to Jesus one has to believe and do the works as Abraham did.

The implication of Jesus’ statement is that he actually met and spoke with Abraham who lived roughly 2000 previously and Abraham upon meeting Jesus did not seek to kill him but rejoiced.

Q

How many people showed to to Abraham?

Who was speaking to Abraham and who stayed behind to continue conversing with Abraham? Where is he planning on visiting next?

Who arrived to Sodom first?

What other name title does Abraham prescribe to the one he is speaking to?

Genesis 18:1-2,20-26
[1]And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
[2]And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
[20]And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
[21]I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
[22]And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.
[23]And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
[24]Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
[25]That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
[26]And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

Genesis 19:1-3
[1]And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
[2]And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
[3]And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

A

Three men initially showed up to Abraham.

The LORD was the one speaking with Abraham and he was the one who stayed behind to continue talking with him as the other two went towards Sodom, which he plans on visiting next.

The two angels arrived to Sodom first.

Abraham called him the “Judge of all the earth”

Q

Where was the Lord just prior to this event?

Where does the text say the LORD rained the brimstone and fire from? What are the contradictions if any, implications or conclusions?

Genesis 19:24
[24]Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

A

Just prior to this event the LORD was speaking with Abraham (Genesis 18:20-21)

The text says the LORD rained the fire and brimstone from heaven. The previous chapter showed that the LORD was on Earth speaking with Abraham and His next stop would be Sodom. It did not mention any quick stops to heaven. In light of the New Testament, it can be concluded that the LORD who was on Earth speaking with Abraham was the Son and the One who rained the fire and brimstone from heaven was the Father.

John 5:22
[22]For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

Q

Who appeared to Abraham?

What credits Abraham as righteous?

As a side note, who did the LORD send to speak with Zechariah and who made the claim that he sanctified and knew Jeremiah even before he was born?

In light of the New Testament, what is Abraham and the other old testament prophets called in regards to their faith?

Genesis 15:1,4,6
[1]After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
[4]And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
[6]And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Zechariah 4:8-9
[8]Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[9]The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.

Jeremiah 1:4-5
[4]Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[5]Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

John 1:1-3,14
[1]In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2]The same was in the beginning with God.
[3]All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
[14]And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

A

The word of the LORD appeared to Abraham

What credits Abraham as righteous is his belief in the LORD

It was the word of the LORD whom the LORD sent to speak with Zechariah and claimed that he sanctified and knew Jeremiah even before he was born.

In light of the new testament, Abraham and the other old testament prophets due to their belief in the word of the LORD makes them all Christians.

Q

When cross referencing the following passages, who are the seeds of Abraham described in Genesis 15:5?

Genesis 15:5-6
[5]And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
[6]And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Romans 4:1-5
[1]What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
[2]For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
[3]For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
[4]Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
[5]But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Galatians 3:5-9
[5]He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
[6]Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
[7]Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
[8]And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
[9]So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

A

The seeds if Abraham is anyone who has the same faith as Abraham.

Q

What are the similarities between the verses in Jeremiah, John, and Mark?

Jeremiah 1:4-5,7-8
[4]Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[5]Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
[7]But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
[8]Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD..

John 15:16
[16]Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Matthew 28:18-20
[18]And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
[19]Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[20]Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

John 1:1,14
[1]In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[14]And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

A

The word of the Lord tells Jeremiah that He chose and ordained him to be a prophet.
Jesus tells the apostles that He chose and ordained them and bring forth fruit.

The word of the LORD tells Jeremiah that whatever He commands for Jeremiah to speak he shall speak it.
Jesus tells the apostles that He commands them to observe all things he teaches them.

The word of the Lord tells Jeremiah that He is with him.
Jesus tells the Apostles that he is always with them

In the Gospel of John the ‘Word of the Lord’ who appeared as a human in the old testament is said to had manifested into flesh later identified as Jesus Christ.

Q

Within the context of this story, Samuel studied the Law of Moses under Eli and was very familiar the word of the LORD. Why then in 1Samuel3:7 it’s said the word of the LORD wasn’t revealed to him yet?

What was the faith of Samuel?

1 Samuel 3:5-7
[5]And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
[6]And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
[7]Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

1 Samuel 3:20-21
[20]And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.
[21]And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

John 1:18
[18]No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

A

Samuel knew and understood the written word but he didn’t know the Living Word. A relationship between him and the LORD didn’t exist yet. The Son is needed to know and understand the true God

Samuel believed in the word of the LORD, therefore, he was a Christian.
