pluralism - jordan and cairne
A
-power much more distributed –> pressure on state = change of policies
-interest groups importance –> special knowledge –> strong voice –> key actors as they influence
-state has an arbitrative role of balancing interest groups ideals
two types
1. corporative model: one group more influence than another (internal e.g. cbi vs external e.g. environmental lobby)
2. polyarchy: multiple people have power of influence

why not majoritarian
A
- never fit the model
- was an ideal
- organsied group influence
- 535 informal meetings with business groups and trade unions between may and december 2010 - weighting of focus is wrong
- no improtance to culture and behaviour
- no importance to things like: - strengthening of the parliament vs executive
- power of judiciary
- growth of legal constitution and legislation politics
- devolution to indpendent non majoritarian models: ni, scotland and wales all proportional representation
- consensual practice and majortiarian institutions has always colived
consulation si a democratic feature and majoritarian is not a dictatorship
