Wesselmann Journal 2022 Flashcards
In terms of study
What is environmental commitment?
how dependant someone is on the environment and the satisfaction they get from that commitment
Also a predictor of how invested they are in commitment
What is main question authors are hoping to answer?
hope to support that environmental commitment is correlated with a pro-environmental world view.
also hope to support that priming environmental commitment will improve environmental relationships (by replicating Davis et al., 2009)
How many participants and where from in study 1?
139 in final sample
recruited university students for course credit
What was the IV in study 1?
Commitment conditions
(levels were low and high commitment condition)
What were the DVs of study 1
- commitment to environment and bases of commitment (self assessed environmental commitment)
- rating on the general ecological scale
Main results of study 1
people in high commitment condition reported having higher commitment, higher satisfaction and lower alternatives than those in low condition
also, condition type had no impact on behavioral investments
Main difference between study 2 and 1
study 2 was conducted full online through MTURK
participants only completed environmental measure and ecological scale
study 1 general methodology
participants were placed into either groups of low or high environmental commitment
they answered 5 questions priming them to be more or less committed to environment
then they completed dependent measures self assessing their environmental commitment (items were based on basis of commitment satisfaction, alternatives and investments)
study 2 followed same procedure BUT they only completed environmental measures and geological behavior scale
