What are the two main categories of substance-related disorders?
Substance Use Disorders and Substance-Induced Disorders.
A problematic pattern of substance use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, as evidenced by criteria such as increased use, persistent desire to cut down, and continued use despite problems.
Substance Use Disorder
refers to the behavioral or psychological changes that occur shortly after the use of a substance, accompanied by specific physiological symptoms.
INTOXICATION
Mental health disorders that occur as a direct result of substance use, including intoxication, withdrawal, or other medication effects.
SUBSTANCE-INDUCED DISORDER
A diagnosis applied when the specific substance involved or type of disorder does not meet the criteria for any specific substance-related disorder.
UNSPECIFIED SUBSTANCE-RELATED DISORDER
A need for markedly increased amounts of the substance to achieve intoxication or the desired effect.
TOLERANCE
Mental disorders that develop during or shortly after the use of a substance or medication and are capable of producing symptoms.
Substance/Medication-Induced Mental Disorders
