What is the GAP?
The disparity between the health and welfare of First Nation Australians compared to non-indigenous Australians
What is yarning?
A conversational process that involves the sharing of stories and passing on of knowledge
Generalised Anxiety disorder
Excessive anxiety and worry, occurring more days not for at least 6 months, after a number of events of activities
Panic disorder
Experience recurrent, unexpected panic attacks and with persistent worry about having more Panick attacks or changes behavior in a maladaptive way to avoid other attacks
Social anxiety
Individual is fearful or anxious about or avoidant of social interactions and situations that involve the possibility of being scrutinized
Separation anxiety disorder
Excessive fear or anxiety concerns separation from home or attachment figures
Specific phobia
Fearfull or anxious of a particular object or situation e.g. spiders, needles, height s
Acrophobia – fearful or anxious in many different situations – 2 or more

OT and anxiety
Will depend on the setting/context
Focus on occupation performance and how the anxiety is impacting the person’s life

Cognitive behaviour therapy
Involves addressing these errors in thinking so that it decreases levels of stress and anxiety
One part of CBT is called behavioral activation – this is where OT’s are often very involved because it relates so much to occupational participation
