Step 4 of EBP process
Apply - application of results in practice
- If you find evidence that is valuable, significant and applicable to your patient, the next step is to decide whether and how to apply the findings to the care of your patients

5th step of the EBP process
Access
- The final step in the EBP process is for practitioners to reflect on the effectiveness of the EBP process in terms of patient outcomes as well as changes to practitioner behavior, or attitudes and organizational changes
There are 2 strands to the fifth step: Self-evaluation and evaluation of the EBP process
Stroke
Stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is suddenly disrupted, leading to cell death within minutes. Also called a cerebrovascular accident (CVA), brain bleed or brain hemorrhage
Early signs of stroke
Weakness or numbness or paralysis of the face
Arm or leg on either or both sides of the body can’t be raised
Difficulty speaking or understanding
Dizziness, loss of balance or unexplained fall
Loss of vision
Headache – usually abrupt
Difficulty swallowing
OT role with pt with stroke
Access the impact of changes in motor function, sensation, coordination, visual perception and cognition on a person’s capacity to manage daily life tasks
Intervention improves participation in meaningful roles, tasks, and activities
- Self care retraining
- Fatigue management
- Assistive technology/equipment
- Upper limb rehab
