A
- Listen ( Be sure client is ready for self disclosure. Be sure disclosure is relevant)
- Immediately after, focus on application to client
- Use “I” statements (use own self disclosure “I think” not “people think”
- Describe your thoughts, feelings, behaviours
- Be genuine esp. when using here and now

- Not necessary when conversation is going well
- Use if client is struggling to talk about a topic
- TMI can frighten or distance a client
