Week 6 (BRB) Flashcards
How does the 4th principle (Liking) work?
- Halo and Horn effect
- Similarity
- Compliments
- Contact and cooperation (mere exposure)
- Conditioning and association (we won, but they lost / blaming bad weather on the weatherman)
What does the 5th principle (Authority) mean?
We are inclined to say yes to people we look up to, are in charge. This happens even when it’s wrong or meaningless.
What does the 6th principle (Scarcity) mean?
Too little product makes it look more valuable. Limited numbers of time.
How can we apply the 6th principle (Scarcity)?
- Rule of thumb = things gained with an effort are often better
- Psychological reactance = when something isn’t allowed, you want it
What does the 7th extra principle (Unity) mean?
A shared identity that both the influencer and the influenced are part of. The more we perceive people are part of us, the more likely we are to be influenced by them.
How can we apply the 7th extra principle (Unity)?
- Most powerful = family ties
- Confusion = disrupt-then-reframe technique
- God/devil terms = words that imply ultimate positive good things (peace, hope, wonderful, passion, healthy, power, etc.)
What are Russel’s conjugations?
When we choose different words to describe the same thing, depending on how favorable we want to be to it. It adds bias and is typically intended to influence the way you think about something.
