Q

What is Hypothesis Testing?

its errors?

A

It is the method of making decisions using data

There are two hypothesis’s
Null: no difference
Alternative: there is a difference

ERRORS in hypothesis testing
TYPE 1 : you incorrectly reject the null (when it is true)
^ this error is more important in hypothesis testing, it is essentially saying that

TYPE 2 : you incorrectly accept the null (when it is false and there truly is a change)
^ this error in diagnostic testing is BAD it means essentially you are saying someone isn’t sick but they are.

Q

Steps for Hypothesis testing

A

Preliminary step: State Research question
1. Null and Alternative hypothesis
2. Decide on significance level (if not stated 0.05)
3. Calculate test statistics (what is p value, what is alpha?)
4 Accept or reject null depending on whether p is higher or lower the alpha
5. State the conclusion “At 5% significance, there is/isn’t sufficient evidence to reject/accept the null hypothesis. Therefore ______ does/doesn’t affect ______.

Q

What is a confidence interval? important because and interpretation

A

Confidence interval is an interval between two values, that uses the sample data to make an estimate for the rest of the population, with a degree of confidence.
The narrower the confidence interval the more precise the estimate.

Important in health care because findings are not beneficial if can’t be referred to the population.

INTERPRETATION
95% confident that the true mean lies between __lower confidence limit__ and __upper confidence limit__.
