extent to which use of force, control and power is accepted and gender roles endorsed
what is uncertainty avoidance
extent to which uncertainty and ambiguity is tolerated
what is long term orientation
extent of focus on preparing for the future
what is indulgence
extent to which freedom and acting on impulses is good and valued

cultures do not telegraph their feelings, but keep them carefully controlled and subdued

meaning is conveyed verbally and is explicit
what does high context mean
meaning is conveyed by situation and context

developing an understanding of other cultures

what is surface adaptation?
observable, superficial characteristics (eg. language, food, location, clothing)
deep cultural adaptation
cultural, social, historical, environmental and psychological characteristics (eg. the meaning of health, social norms)
