Week 4 Flashcards
the forehead protrudes beyond the eyebrows and the chin protrudes beyond the plane of the upper lip
concave profile
the forehead recess posteriorly from the eyebrows while the chin recess from the plane of the upper lip.
-first word because it is the superior feature
convex profile
the chin, forehead and upper lip project to an imaginary vertical line. Not any one feature protrudes or recedes more than another
vertical/balanced profile
represent the basic shapes but not all of the shapes. there are also combinations of these shapes.
concave, convex, and vertical facial profiles
the forehead recedes from the eyebrows and the chin protrudes beyond the plane of the upper lip.
convex-concave facial profile
the forehead protrudes beyond the eyebrows and the chin recedes from the plane of the upper lip
concave- convex facial profile
the forehead and eyebrows project equally to an imaginary line and the chin recedes less the upper lip
vertical - convex facial profile
the forehead recess from the eyebrows while the chin and upper lip project equally to an imaginary line
convex - vertical facial profile
the forehead protrudes beyond the eyebrows while the upper lip and chin project equally to the imaginary line
concave - vertical facial profile
the forehead and eyebrows project to an imaginary line and the chin protrudes more than the upper lip
vertical - concave facial profile
Head shapes from the front view (3)
- bi- parietal width
- bi-zygomatic width
- bi- mandibular width
- length is always vertical dimension
- width (transverse) is always horizontal dimension
geometric pattern made by length vs. width measurements
the widest part of the cranium and skull - measured by a straight line across the parietal eminences
bi-parietal width
the widest part of the face(5 eye widths)
-measured by a straight line form the peak of one zygomatic arch to the peak of the other zygomatic arch
bi-zygomatic width
the widest part of the jaw; measured by a straight line across the angles of the jaw
bi-mandibular width
7 basic head shapes from the front view
- oval
- round
- square
- triangle
- inverted triangle
- diamond
- oblong
-ideal shape and most common shape of head. cheekbones are wider than the cranium and the cranium is slightly wider than the lower jaw
oval head shape
short with round cheeks and a rounded, fuller jawline and a rounded cranium
round head shape
appears to be short and composed of straight lines. the forehead, jawline and cheeks are approximately the same width. hairline is often straight
square head shape
appears significantly wider at the jawline than the cheekbone and forehead. forehead is the narrowest feature. Eyes are close-set. least common head shape
triangle head shape
characterized by a jawline that is narrower than the cheekbone or forehead. forehead is the widest feature of the face. eyes are wide set
inverted triangle
characterized by wide cheekbones and a narrow forehead and jawline. greatest width is across the cheekbone
diamond head shape
long and narrow. the forehead and chin may be rounded or square. nose is usually long
oblong head shape
typical similar bilateral curvatures include 4
- forehead
- superior integumentary lips
- chin
- cheeks can also be similiar
typical asymmetrical features (5)
- both eyes are not the same width
- one side of the mouth may be longer than the other
- one side of nose may be wider than the other
- one cheek may be more prominent than the other
- ears exhibit the greatest differences in positions, form and size.
