What are the levels of organization in the body?
The levels of organization in the human body consists of cells,tissues,organs and organ systems.
What is homeostasis?
Homeostasis is the process by which an organisms internal environment is kept stable.
What is the function of the skeleton?
To provide support and determines the shape of your body,protect organs,produce blood cells,store minerals.
How does the skeletal system help you move?
Your bones are held together by different types of joints that help you move in different ways.
What are the 26 little bones in your backbone called?
Vertebrae
What are the different types of muscles?
There are 3 different types of muscles;skeletal muscle,smooth muscle,and cardiac muscle
What is a tendon?
A tendon is what attaches a muscle to a bone.
What is a cardiac muscle?
heart;striated,is an involuntary muscle,does not tire.
What is a smooth muscle?
part of internal organs and blood vessels,not striated,involuntary muscle,moves slowly/
What is the function of skin?
The skin protects you from infections,water loss,injury,regulates body temperature,eliminates wastes.
What is the epidermis?
The epidermis is the outer layer of the skin,the epidermis does not have nerves or blood vessels.
What is the dermis?
The dermis is the inner layer of the skin.
What is the dermis structure?
The dermis contains nerves and blood vessels.The dermis also contains pores,oil glands,sweat glands,hairs,and follicles.
What are pores?
pores contain the sweat glands.
What is a follicle?
The structure where hair grows from.
How do you keep your skin healthy?
Keeping your skin clean and dry,Eating healthy,and limiting your exposure to the sun.
What is digestion?
The process by which your body breaks down food into small nutrient molecules.
What is mechanical digestion?
Where foods are physically broken down into smaller pieces.
What is chemical digestion?
Chemicals in the body break down foods into smaller building blocks.
What is the epiglottis?
A flap that covers the trachea so the food does not gown down the “wrong pipe”.It goes goes down the esophogus.
What is mucus?
a thick slimy layer helping food go down the esophogus.
What are enzymes?
Enzymes helps speed up chemical reactions in the body.
What is the stomachs function?
To hold food.
What is villi/microvilli?
increases surface area for rapid nutrient absorption.
