WEEK 3 - RESEARCH PROCESS Flashcards
1
Q
What is bias
A
is an error in the results, leading to false conclusions, and effects the trustworthiness of the evidence - validity
2
Q
Finding the Best Evidence: Questions to Consider
A
- Is it current?
- Is it informed by research?
- Is the article peer-reviewed?
- How well was the research conducted? Is it bias-free?
- How relevant is it to your clinical population and healthcare setting?
- Overall, is the evidence of high quality?
3
Q
What is the levels of evidence
A
Relate to the level of bias. The higher the level of evidence, the lower the risk of bias.
4
Q
What is a clinical question?
A
- a clinical question is answered by research, using a specific design, and collecting data from real people.
- the question is clearly defined
- determines the evidence needed/collected e.g. quantitative or qualitative
5
Q
What is level of evidence
A
- well-designed research minimise the risk of bias and is considered a higher level of evidence
- high level evidence is integral to practice – the most trustworthy
6
Q
6.3 How Bias Threatens Validity
A
- Minimisation of bias is mediated by well-designed research
- Random allocation minimises allocation bias
- Systematic Reviews are at risk of bias from the original studies
- Important that original studies with bias are eliminated from the review’s conclusions
- Carefully conducted systematic reviews are essential to eliminate bias
