Week 3 and 4 Flashcards
The system of positioning of leads for performing
a 12 lead ECG is universal
What is ensured of by the system of positioning of leads for performing a 12 lead ECG is universal
This helps to ensure that when a person’s ECGs are compared, any changes on the ECG are due to cardiac injury, not a difference in placement of leads, this is extremely important with the increasing use of foreign travel. There are universal standards in place through out the world.
Name the four common causes of artifact?
- Patient Movement
- Loose or defective electrodes
- Improper grounding
- Faulty ECG apparatus
What is crucial in artifact?
Patient assessment
What are the 5 questions when reading a rhythm strip?
- Are P-P Waves present
- Are P-P Waves occurring regularly?
- Is there a P-P -Waves for each QRS?
- Are the P-P-Waves smooth, rounded, and upright in appearance, or are inverted?
- Do all P P-Waves look similar?
What is the Normal length of the P-R interval?
Normal length of the PRI IS 0.12 to 0.20 second ( 3-5 small squares)
What are the three questions to ask for the P-R interval
- Are PRI greater than 0.20 seconds?
- Are PRI less than 0.21 seconds?
- Are the PRI’s constant across the ECG?
What is the normal length of the PRI
0.12 to 0.20 seconds (3-5
