Autonomic Nervous System Flashcards
Regulates vital functions of all organs by both reflex and central nervous system control, but not by conscious control.
The Autonomic Nervous System
ANS
Autonomic Nervous System
We know that the ANS controls all organs and organ systems what is the main concern of autonomic control with regards to EKG.
Our main concern is autonomic control of the heart and also of the systemic arteries as they relate to blood pressure.
The ANS has two divisions, it is said to be sometimes difficult and hard to comprehend why is that?
Because one division may stimulate an organ, yet inhibit another organ.
The two divisions of the ANS have well defined roles in the heart and systematic arteries; what are they?
One division stimulates and one division inhibits, it’s that simple one division stimulates cell function, while the other division opposes that stimulation.
Operation if the ANS is compare to
Each division operators like an electrical system that could controls its own terminals
The switches in the ANS division that modulate the function of heart cells, via the ion-moving structures of those cells.
Receptors
A stimulus originating in the ANS is transmitted to a ______________ of secondary nerve cells for processing.
Ganglion
What is the function of the ganglion?
The nerves of the ganglion relay stimulus to their nerve ends, each of which terminates as a disc
