Explain social perception
The process by which people interpret information about others, draw inferences about them, and develop mental representations of them.
Define Social Psychology
Focuses on the power of the situation.
Examines how we think about, influence, and relate to one another in certain conditions.
Define attitudes
A predisposition towards a particular cognitive, emotional, or behavioural reaction to objects
Describe the 3 components of attitude
Cognitive- A set of beliefs about the object
Emotional/affective- feelings about the object
Behavioural- the way we act towards the object
Define prejudice
A positive or negative attitude towards an entire group of people.
Define stereotyping
A false assumption that all members of some group share the same characteristics
Explain the the Motivational theory of Authoritarianism (3)
1: acceptance of conventional or traditional values.
2: willingness to unquestioningly follow authority figures.
3: an inclination to act threateningly towards people identified by authority as having oppositional views (threat).
Explain cognitive theories related to prejudice and stereotyping
because of the social-cognitive process we use to in dealing with the world. The use of schemas to make sense of our world.
Explain learning theories related to prejudice and stereotyping
stereotyping and prejudice can be learned as a child.
