Week 10 - Immunological disease Flashcards
HIV/AIDS
Aids is aquired by an untreated HIV infection that is characrerised as a immunodeficiency disorder that attacks the Tcells which are crucial for fighting infections hence without treatment HIV will gradually destroy the cells
Allergy and hypersensitivity
inappropriate reaction to an antigen
1 - hay fever, food allergy
2 - reaction to a foreign body
3 - mechanism involves antibody-antigen complexes
4 - injury is Tcell mediated
Urticaria
itchy well demarcated red wheals on skin - autoimmune or non immune
allergic rhinoconjuncitivis
Hayfever
due to allergen reaction 1
Food alelrgy
common immune response to a food protein
Drug allergy
hypersensitivity is a immune mediated response to a durg stimulating antibody production or T cells or both `
Anaphylaxis
sever type 1 hypersensitivity reaction that develops rapidly and affects multiple organ systems
asthma
chronic respiratory condition characterised by hyperresponsivess of the airways leading to bronchiocontristion
- increased mucous in airway
- smooth muscle protien production
- airway oedema
- AIRWAY REMODELLING DUE TO INFLAMMATORY INFILTRATE IN THE AIRWAYS
COPD
chronic progressive and incompletely reversibele airflow limitation due to inflammatory small airway disease and alveolar destruction
