Between 635-645, Muslims took over Byzantine and Sasanian empires. By 698, they had North Africa.

In 731, Umayyad Spain fought Christians in modern france in Battle of Poitiers.
Fall of Umayyad in Spain
The Umayyad fell to Spanish crusaders in 1085.
First Crusade
In order to legitimatize their authority over Christians, the Church declared Holy War on Muslims in 1095.
Specifically went after Jerusalem, which they took control over in 1099.
The Muslims strike back
In 1154, Muslims recaptured Damascus. In 1187, they recovered much of Palestine, and Jerusalem.
