Week 1 Wet Flashcards
What is Diploe?
Spongy bone within the cranial bones containing red marrow
Sutures of the skull?
Sagital - Parietals
Coronal - Frontal & Parietal
Lambdoid - Occipital & Parietal
Sections of sphenoid Bone
Lesser Wing (ant) Greater wind (Post) Ant/post Clinoid Process Body of sphenoid Pituitary fossa Pterygoid Plates (Inferior surface)
What bone contains middle/inner ear?
Petrous part of temporal bone
Borders of the scalp?
Superior Nuchal line in occipital bone - Post
Supraorbital Region - Ant
Zygomatic Arch - Lateral
Joint of zygomatic arch?
Fibrous suture
Layers of scalp?
- Skin
- Connective Tissue
- Aponeurosis of Occipitofrontalis
- Loose Connective Tissue
- Pericranium
Why do you bleed so much from the scalp?
Blood vessels are fixed by aponeurosis layer so cant constrict in response to injury
Explain the cutaneous innervation of the scalp?
Anteiror to the ears:
- Trigeminal
Posterior to ears:
- C2/3
List the vessels of the scalp and their sources:
- Supratrochlear & Supraorbital (ICA via Opthalmic)
- Superficial Temporal (ECA)
- Posterior Auricular (ECA)
- Occipital (ECA)
What two veins form the retromandibular vein?
Maxillary
Superficial Temporal
What do Muscles of facial expression attach to?
Fascia rather than bone
They pull on skin for their action
List the muscles of facial expression?
Orbicularis oculi (Palpebral and Orbital parts) Orbicularis Oris Buccinator Occipitofrontalis Platysma
Borders of the parotid gland?
Zygomatic Arch - Sup EAM - Post Mandible - Inf SCM - Post Masseter - just under apex of gland
What vein, artery and nerve enter and divide in the parotid gland?
Facial -> Buccal & Zygomatic branches
ECA -> Maxillary and Superficial Temporal
MAxillary & Superficial Veins -> Retromandibular
