Bits and Pieces Flashcards
Order of the structures in the carotid sheath
Medial - Common Carotid Art
Lateral IJV
With the vagus in between
Where would we put in a central line and why?
The right IJV because:
- Its has a straight path to the SVC
- Bigger than the left IJV
- No risk of injuring the thoracic duct
- More likely to cause pneumothorax on the left as the lung is higher
Where do the IJV and CCA emerge inferiorly?
Between the heads of the SCM
What kind of scan would you use to look at salivary ducts?
A Sialogram
Where does the middle meningeal artery run?
It branches off the maxillary art and passes into the skull through foramen spinosum
Then it grooves the skull internally under the pterion
What is the point of densest rods and cones (and so greatest visual acuity) in the eye?
The Fovea Centralis
Function of the Stapedius and Tensor Tympani?
TT - Dampens the vibrations of the Tympanic membrane in order to dampen out any background sounds of the body like chewin
Stapedius - Stabilizes the Stapes, effectively dampening overly loud sounds
When do the fontanelles fuse?
Posterior fontanelle - 2 to 3 months
Sphenoidal fontanelle - 6 months
Mastoid fontanelle - 6 to 18 months
Anterior fontanelle - 18–24 months.
Where in the larynx does epithelium change?
Its non-keratinized Stratified Squamous until just below the vocal chords.
The false vocal chord and everything below the true one is Pseudostratified Ciliated Columnar epithelium
