Two Factor theory of Mowrer: avoidance learning contains 2 processes

A
  1. Classical conditioning: stimuli that first are neutral get meaning. One learns to fear a previously neutral stimulus.
  2. Operant conditioning: opvolgend gedrag wordt in stand gehouden door (positieve of negatieve) reinforcement. The stimulus that causes anxierty is avoided. This bring relief of negative emotions, anxiety = maintained!
