week 1 college Flashcards
Why should we influence health behavior?
health behavior is related to morbidity and mortality
Lot of people die because of poor health behavior
gezondheidsinterventies hebben soms tegengestelde effecten. Welke drie vormen?
- ongelijkheid (sommige interventies werken alleen op bepaalde doelgroepen en maken het erger voor andere doelgroepen)
- hardening mensen worden reactief en gaan nog meer het gedrag vertonen
- stigmatizering
motivation
Health belief model (HBM) where do the arrows lead to?
motivation
social cognitive theory (SCT)
what are the two most important parts of this model? What do they mean
self-efficacy expectations: belief in your capabillity
outcome expectations: will it lead to positive health outcomes?
motivation
what are the four sources of self-efficacy?
vicarious= learning via another person (eg observation)
motivation
theory of reasoned action
what is the most important message of this model?
intention is the most important part of motivation.
preparing for action
self determination theory describes the strength of motivaton. what are the three basic psychosocial needs (external to internal) that are mentioned in the model?
relatedness, competence and autonomy
What makes the health action process approach different from the other models?
Distinguishes between motivational phase and volitional phase. Most theories stop here and assume that motivation leads to behavior.
Makes the distinction between three types of self efficacy.
According to the biopsychosocial model what are the three realms of health?
what are the three points of possible prevention? Give an example of each
primary: condom use
What is the WHO’s definition of health?
state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
in the HBM, influence if action will be taken. what other factor is concidered in this model?
examples of cues:
internal: pain.
external: advice
motivation
what are the four effects of self-efficacy?
preparing
in the self determination theory. what are the five stages (external to internal) of motivation?
Matarazzo (1984) made a destinction between behavioral pathogens
and immunogens.
describe both.
Matarazzo distinguishes between behavioral pathogens
, which are health risk behaviors (like smoking, unsafe sex, and drink driving),
behavioral immunogens
which are health protective behaviors (such as engaging in physical activity, eating a healthy diet, and using sun protection).
