What is Organisational Behaviour?
The systematic study and application of knowledge about how people (individual and in groups) act within organisations. There are three levels;
-Individuals
-Groups
-The Organisation
It is about studying how these factors affect the success of the organisation.
What is Behaviour?
An individuals conduct; what we see, effort & Individual factors.
Includes Perception, Cognition, Affect, Motivation
Limitations of Organisational Behaviour
- Sheer Volume of information
- Always changing as society changes
- Behaviour Bias
- Cannot predict everything (E.g economic depression).
Role of the Environment
- Macro environment; economic, social, political, legal, technological, ecological
- Operating Environment; Competitive, customers, labour supplies
Functions & Roles of Management
Functions; Planning, Organising, Leading, Controlling
Roles; interpersonal, informational, decisional.
OB Model
- Independent Variables; Individuals, groups, organisation
- Dependent variables; productivity, absenteeism, turnover, deviance, organisational citizen behaviour, job satisfaction.

- Electronic Work; technology is one of the most defining aspects of new work. Emedia transforms the nature, form and temporal aspects of work, influencing the structure and meaning of the workforce and impacts human relationships.
- Self Management; decentralisation of work systems, diffusion of power, temporary & contingent labour.
- Individualised Risk; focus on self goals rather than organisation goals, people feel short on time.
- Gender; As women make up a large part of the workforce features of ‘women’s culture also define the workforce; social cohesion, people centred management.
