Weather Symbols And Tools Flashcards
Air mass
A large body of air similar properties
Maritime polar air
Cold and humid
Continental tropical air
Warm and dry
Continental polar air
Cold and dry
Anemometer
Measures wind speed
Hygrometer
Measures moisture in the air (humidity)
Barometer
Measures air pressure- low pressure: clouds/ rain
High pressure: sunny/ fair weather
Rain Guage
Measures the amount of rainfall
Radar
Measures wind and precipitation inside a storm
Wind vane
Shows which way the wind is blowing
Maritime tropical air
Warm+ humid
Fronts
Boundaries of to air masses, they are where the weather happens, they are moved by wind
Occluded front
A cold air mass overtakes a slower moving warm air mass and forces warm air up. The cold air continues advancing until it meets another cold air mass
Stationary front
Could air mass meets a warm air mass and results in little movement
Warm front
Warm air meets and overrides a cold air mass
