Physical Science Flashcards
Radiation
The transfer of het through the sun
Convection
The transfer of heat through a liquid or gas
Conduction
The flow of heat by touch
Physical properties
Properties that are used to observe and describe matter they can be measured without changing the composition of matter color, shape, smell,
Chemical Properties
Of a substance are properties that are only observed during a chemical reaction
Friction
A force that occurs when two objects rub against one another. friction creates heat and it often slows down. Or stops an objects motion
Velocity
Speed and direction on object is moving
Physical changes
Changes that don’t change the chemical composition but they change the substance such as a liquid, gas, or solid
Chemical changes
They occur when a substance combines with another to form a new substance
Average speed
How far an object moves in a certain amount of time
Newtons 1st law
When an object is in motion, it wants to stay in motion. When an object is at rest, it wants to stay at rest FOREVER!!!!! This is called inertia.
Newtons 2nd law
When two forces on an object are balanced, the object does not move. When the forces are unbalanced, the object moves. F= M x A law
Newtons 3rd law
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
