A
  • pull trigger nothing happens
  • fires round then stops firing
  • jams for unknown reasons
  • may be caused by electrical malfunction

Misfire

A
  • complete failure of the weapon to fire

- not dangerous but must be treated as a malfunction or faulty ammunition round

Hang Fire

A
  • occurs when the round has detonated but burns slower and delays the firing of the round
  • initially a hang fire can not be distinguished from a misfire.

A
  • occurs when the heat of the barrel is high enough to cause the propellant powder inside the round to ignite before the primer has been struck.
