2 types of AIE
- Tactical
2. Non-tactical
Tactical AIE
provides rapid insertion/extraction of personnel and equipment without landing or being detected by the enemy in tactical environment
Non-tactical AIE
can be performed when the threat is environment is low, tactical operations are not feasible, or for peace time rescue in response to some sort of disaster
Forest Penetrator
- compact device weighing 19lbs
- bright yellow color
- can hold 1-3 personnel at the same time
with safety straps to ensure passengers dont fall off - buoyant so that 6 inches will be visible above water level
Stoke Litter
- constructed of wire mesh and light weight steel tubing
- sides prevent the survivor from accidentally bumping the A/C and obstructions
- weights 56 lbs
Stokes litter deployment Low and Slow
when survivor is in the water helicopter comes in at low alt. and deploys the stoke liter with the J’s already in the water.
Stoke liter deployment Rescue Host
used when landing is impractical or impossible host is used most often over water and hazardous terrain
Tag Line
- is deployed to surface personnel to help stabilize the hoisting of a stokes litter in confined/ obstacle ridden areas and in normal ops.
- weighs 5 lbs per 100 feet of line
- length range from 100 feet to 250 feet
Rope Ladder
- made of cloth straps with metal rungs
- normally 25 feet in length
- weighing 1 lb per foot of ladder
- used during land or water when LZ is unavailable
Fast Rope
- interwoven hemp and have a diameter of 2 inches
- breaking strength of 35000 lbs
- range between 60-120 feet long
- typically used at a 100 foot hover
Horse Collar ( rescue Strop )
- buoyant device constructed of fiber filling encased in a bright red or orange waterproof cover
- sling weight 5 lbs
- terminating into a V-Ring used to attach sling to hoist hooks
Rappel Rope
- allows direct control of descent and precise placement of the team
- it reduces the exposure of the A/C and personnel in the tactical environment
- diameter of 1/2 inch
- weighs 10 lbs per 100 feet of rope
- minimal length of 150 feet
Rescue Basket
- stainless steel tubing and cable
- 2 nylon covered foam floats
- silk screened with the words REMAIN SEATED
- best device for recovering survivors in frigid water
