What four things do Scripture teach us about God?
What God is
The persons of the Godhead
His decrees
The execution of his decrees.
In what ways does God reveal himself to us?
How do we know him?
Dreams, visions, face-to-face.
In nature, and through God’s revelation of himself to us in Scripture.
What does infinite mean?
Infinite means without beginning or end.
What means without passions?
Without emotions provoked by events happening outside himself.
List and define those incommunicable attributes mentioned.
Aseity = self existence
immutability
infinity (eternity and immensity)
oneness (unity and simplicity)
List the communicable attributes
a spirit (John 4:24)
powerful (Rev 4:8)
wise (Rom 16:27),
holy (Is. 6:3),
just (Deut 32:4),
merciful
gracious
long-suffering
abundant in goodness and truth (Ex 34:6).
What do we learn about God in relation to others?
Self sufficient, creator, omniscient, holy.
All creatures owe Him worship and obedience.
God is the fountain of all that exists, and needs nothing from any of his creation. He exists with all knowledge and power out of the abundance of his own being.
What is the second of the four things God reveals about himself in Scripture?
That he exists in a godhead of three persons.
What four aspects form the traditional proof that there are three persons and each is fully divine.
Names, attributes, works, and worship.
What is the relationship between each member of the Godhead?
The Father begets the Son, the Son is begotten of the Father, the Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son
What is the personal attribute of the Father?
Creator by His power
What is the personal attribute of the Son?
The Son is the Redeemer and Savior by His blood.
What is the personal attribute of the Spirit?
The Spirit is the sanctifier by His dwelling in our hearts.
Give Scripture proof for Names
Isa. 6:3, 5, 8 Isaiah saw YHWH LORD. Who will go for Us?
John 12:41 Says that Isaiah saw Jesus’ glory
Acts 28:25 Says “The Holy Spirit spoke through Isaiah”
Isa. 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
