• energy from the sun causes water to EVAPORATE from the surface of the sea
• as the water rises it cools and CONDENSES forming clouds
• pressure in clouds increases so water is forced out of the clouds as PRECIPITATION (rain, snow, sleet, hail)
• some of the water INFILTRATES through rocks to form aquifers
• some of the water undergoes SURFACE RUNOFF and finds its way back to rivers
• the water in rivers eventually drains back to the sea
