Water Flashcards
Give 3 types of water
Pure water
Impure water
Purifying water
Can you do wudhu/ ghusl with pure water?
Water may be pure, but it may not be purifying, meaning it’s impermissible to do wudhu/ ghusl with it
Give 5 types of water suitable for wudhu
Pure and purifying water:
- Water from the sky
- Water from natural springs
- Water from streams and rivers
- Water from wells
- Water from the sea
Give 2 examples of water that is impermissible to use
Water squeezed out of fruit and trees
Mixed water (not considered water anymore)
What is meant by mixed water?
Eg mixed with something pure or Used water
Considered pure but not purifying and not considered water anymore
Give 3 permissible uses of animal skin
Animal skin (also known as tanning/hides) can be used:
To wear
To use
To pray on
Can you use leather pouches/ bags to hold water?
Yes
Describe the natural state of water
Thin
Flowing
Describe the unnatural state of water
For example if it is
- completely mixed (obvious)
- cooking water
- predominance (any substance that make it unnatural water)
What are the 3 qualities of water that determines if it changes
Taste
Smell
Colour
If solid falls into the water is the water still pure?
Yes it’s still pure UNLESS it loses its thinness and its ability to flow.
(Predominance of water)
What if a type of liquid that does not possess any qualities (smell, taste, colour) falls in water. Can you use that for purification? E.g used water
Look at the proportion.
If it is less than 50 percent then the water is fine to use for purification.
If more than 50%, then considered impure for purification
A type of liquid that only possesses 2 qualities. Can it be used for purification?
If 1 out of the 2 qualities affect the
water, this is considered ‘too much’
and therefore water is considered impure for purification.
A type of liquid that possesses 3 qualities (e.g.
vinegar)
If 2 out of the 3 qualities affect the water, this is considered ‘too much’ and therefore water is considered impure for purification.
What does standing water mean?
Means still water that doesn’t flow.
