WHAT IS A ‘THEORY’
An attempt at explaining a phenomenon in the world.
or An (explanatory) theory is a scientific explanation of how something works. E.g. the theory of evolution by natural selection
TRANSDIAGNOSTIC
MECHANISM
a chunk of a theory/explanation, that seems to apply across different problems/diagnoses.
FORMULATION
a theory/explanation of an individual’s particular presenting problems (rather than of a disorder)
What is schizophrenia:
it’s an umbrella term for a number of psychotic disorders that can starting forming in the early teens or twenties. It affects nearly every dimension of a person’s mind and brain, including language, emotion, perception, behaviour and thought.
What are some of the symptoms of schizophrenia
Delusions, Hallucinations, and loosening of association
Delusions
false beliefs that are firmly held even with evidence that they are not true.
Hallucinations
perception experience that distract or occur without external stim both Visual and auditory.
Loosening of association
speaker has a confusing and often illogical pattern to the listener
