W10 - Chi-Squared Test Flashcards
What is the Chi-squared test used for?
To compare differences in the ‘proportions of YES answers’ between 2 or more groups.
What can the groups be for the chi-squared test?
Nominal or ordinal
What type of test is the chi-squared test?
Non-parametric
When can you NOT use a chi-squared test?
If you have a repeated measures design.
A person must only contribute to 1 cell of the cross tabulation table.
What should the expected frequencies be for the chi-squared test?
> 5
What if the frequencies are below what the expected should be in a chi-squared test?
Loss of statistical power
Reliability of findings are compromised.
What would you expect if theres no association in the chi-squared test?
You would expect the proportion of i.e winners to be similar in i.e the democratic and autocratic leadership.
When are non-parametric tests required?
Sample size <15
When outcome data collected on a continuous scale is not normally distributed.
When data are not measured on a continuous scale, instead are ordinal or nominal.
Parametric equivalent to the Spearman’s rank order correlation non-parametric test
Pearsons correlation (parametric)
Non-parametric equivalent to the independent t-test
Mann-whitney U test
Parametric equivalent to the Wilcoxon signed rank test
Paired t test
Parametric equivalent to the Kruskal-wallis ANOVA
1-way ANOVA
Non-parametric equivalent to the repeated measures ANOVA
Friedmans ANOVA
