volume of gas produced by a reaction Flashcards

Q
What does both practicals show us
A
Both of these experiments show us that the greater the concentration of a chemical in a reaction, the faster the reaction takes place.

Q
people have different eyesight for some people the corss might be gone while for others it still may be visible
all students will use the same sized cross
A
- Use a measuring cylinder to place 50 cm3 of hydrochloric acid into a conical flask.
- Attach the conical flask to a bung and delivery tube.
- Now place the delivery tube into a container filled with water.
- Then place an upturned measuring cylinder also filled with water over the delivery tube.
- Add a 3 cm strip of magnesium to the hydrochloric acid and start a stopwatch.
- The reaction produces hydrogen gas which is trapped in the measuring cylinder.
- Every ten seconds, measure the volume of hydrogen gas in the measuring cylinder.
- Continue till no more hydrogen gas is given off
- repeat the experiment with different levels of hydrocloric acid
