what is potable water
A
WATER THAT HAS LOW ENOUGH LEVELS OF DISSOLVED SALTS a MICROBES THAT IT IS SAFE TO DRINK.

what is the most effective way of getting potable water
A
By first taking it from a FRESHWATER source e.g. river, as this will have ver little salt dissolved in it.

what has to be done to freshwater to be clean water
A
It’s then FILTERED to remove large insoluble particles, then STERILISED CHLORINE, OZONE or UV.

what does desalination mean
A
removal of salt (e.g. from seawater) by DISTILLATION or
REVERSE OSMOSIS so it is safe to drink.
Disadvantage: requires a lot of energy.
