Sliding window
A window with two or more sashes, which slide along horizontal grooves or tracks.
Awning window
A window with one or more sashes, which swing outwards, hinged horizontally along the top.
Hopper window
A window with one or more sashes, which swing inwards, hinged horizontally at the bottom.
Roof
The external, upper covering of a building. The roof can be flat or pitched.
Gable roof
A roof which slopes down in two parts from a central ridge, forming a gable at each end.
Hip roof
A roof having sloping ends and sides, meeting at an inclined projected angle.
Parapet
The low wall at the edge of a flat roof
Eave
The horizontal edge at the low side of a sloping roof.
Fascia
The exposed vertical face of an eave
Ridge board
The horizontal timber at the edge of a roof, to which the tips of the rafters are attached.
