Bay
A rectangular area of a building defined by 4 adjacent columns
Building envelope
Vertical and horizontal building components that serve to separate the uncontrolled environment from the controlled environment. It includes the exterior walls, roof, openings within the envelope such as windows and doors, and the foundation walls below grade.
Cladding
Visible materials on the exterior of a building envelope wall.
Window
An opening in the wall of a building for admitting light and air, usually fitted with a frame in which are set operable sashes containing lanes of glass.
Sash
The fixed or movable framework of a window or door on which panes of glass are set.
Dormer window
A vertical window in a projection built out from a sloping roof.
Casement window
Has a sash which swings open on a vertical axis, the hinges mounted perpendicularly on the jamb.
Double hung window
A window having two vertically sliding sashes, each in separate grooves or tracks.
