Instructional Procedures:
retest any words whose definition student had incorrectly in previous sessions by asking him to pronounce, define and use the word in a sentence
tell the student to read each new word orally to you
tell the student to write the definition and part of speech for each word
have the student create and write a sentence for each new word in his notebook
check for incorrect definition, correct grammar, spelling and punctuation

improving sentence writing skills
proofreading spelling errors

Practicing Vocabulary in Context

Instructional Procedures:
tell student to read question 1, read all answer choices and pick the best one
student should mark his answer in the column for Pre-test
have the student complete the remainder independently
turn the page, tell student to orally read the story and think about the meaning of the underlined word
go back to the previous page with the student to see if he wants to change his answers for the Post-test

finding key word in word problems
identifying correct answers even when unsure of some words

Instructional Procedures:
Before beginning, administer Instant word test on first day (directions in back of the book)
Conduct all lessons on 1-1 basis
have student read each word until he has missed 5
write each of the 5 words on an index card
instruct student to create a sentence for each of the new words
each session review word previously taught, each time he gets it, put a start on the card, after 5 starts he can take the card home
do not introduce new words if there are more then 15 words that are currently being reviewed

proofreading spelling errors

review 2 new words at beginning of each lesson
instruct student to write new words and definition in their response book
confirm they understand the words
assign exercise to be completed independently
